Sadness is a heaviness that settles in the heart after loss, disappointment, or pain. Islam does not deny this feeling! it teaches us to carry it to Allah, trusting that He sees every tear and knows what the heart cannot say.

Dua Asking Allah to Remove Sadness and Replace It With Ease

اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلًا، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا

Transliteration

Allāhumma lā sahla illā mā jaʿaltahu sahlā, wa anta tajʿalu al-ḥazna idhā shi'ta sahlā.

Translation

O Allah, nothing is easy except what You make easy, and You make sadness easy when You will.

📖 Ibn Ḥibbān — ṣaḥīḥ

A powerful Dua asking Allah to ease any hard situation and remove sadness, reminding the heart that ease is entirely in His hands, and He can grant it in an instant.

Dua Seeking Protection from Sadness

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ

Transliteration

Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika mina al-hammi wal-ḥazan.

Translation

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and sadness.

📖 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6369

A short but complete prophetic refuge for the moments when the heart feels too heavy to say much more than this. Say it, repeat it, and let Allah carry the rest.

Dua of the One in Distress — Prophet Yūnus (AS)

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration

Lā ilāha illā anta, subḥānaka innī kuntu mina-ẓ-ẓālimīn.

Translation

There is no deity but You; glory be to You. Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers.

📖 At-Tirmidhī 3505 — ṣaḥīḥ · Dua of Prophet Yūnus (AS)

The Prophet ﷺ said this Dua is answered in distress — a direct call of help to Allah. Said from the depths of darkness, it was the Dua that brought light.

📿 Dhikr That Brings Comfort

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

Transliteration

Ḥasbunallāhu wa niʿma al-wakīl.

Translation

Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.

When people told the believers that danger surrounded them, they responded with this — and it increased their faith (Āl ʿImrān 3:173). In sadness, let it increase yours.

📖 Qur'anic Reminder About Sadness

فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ۝ إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

Fa inna maʿa al-ʿusri yusrā • inna maʿa al-ʿusri yusrā.

"For indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease."

📖 Surah Ash-Sharḥ 94:5–6

Allah repeated this promise twice in two consecutive verses — as if to say: in case you doubted it the first time, hear it again. Sadness will not last forever.
