Suhoor Duas – Start Your Fast with Blessings

Suhoor Duas

Start Your Fast with Blessings

Suhoor is the pre-dawn meal that sustains the body and soul throughout the day's fast. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Take suhoor, for indeed there is blessing in suhoor." (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim). Beyond physical nourishment, suhoor is a spiritual moment — a time to set intention, seek Allah's help, and begin the day with His remembrance. These duas sanctify the meal and prepare the heart for a day of worship.

🤲🏼 Dua Before Eating Suhoor

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Transliteration: Bismillāhi-r-Raḥmāni-r-Raḥīm.
Translation: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."

📖 Source: Sunnah before every meal — Sahih Bukhari & Muslim.

Starting suhoor with Bismillah invites Allah's blessings into the meal and reminds us that all provision comes from Him. This simple phrase transforms eating into an act of worship.

💡

How to Practice:

Say Bismillah clearly before your first bite at suhoor. If you forget at the beginning, say "Bismillah awwalahu wa ākhirah" — in the name of Allah at its beginning and its end. Never let a suhoor pass without it.

🤲🏼 Intention (Niyyah) for Fasting

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ
Transliteration: Wa bi-ṣawmi ghadin nawaytū min shahri Ramaḍān.
Translation: "I intend to fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan."

📖 Source: Recommended by scholars for making intention clear.

The intention to fast must be made before Fajr (dawn). While the intention is primarily in the heart, verbalizing it during suhoor helps focus the mind and purify the act for Allah's sake alone.

📝 Note: The intention can also be made silently in the heart with sincerity.
💡

How to Practice:

Recite this niyyah quietly after finishing your suhoor meal, before the Fajr adhan. Let it be a conscious, sincere moment of dedicating the entire day's fast to Allah alone.

Transliteration: Allāhumma innī as'aluka khayra hādhā-l-yawm, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharrihi.
Translation: "O Allah, I ask You for the good of this day, and I seek refuge in You from its evil."

Transliteration: Allāhumma aʿinnī ʿalā ṣiyāmihi wa qiyāmihi wa taqabbalhu minnī.

📿 Morning Dhikr After Suhoor

Transliteration: Aṣbaḥnā wa aṣbaḥa-l-mulku lillāh, wa-l-ḥamdu lillāh, lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamd, wa Huwa ʿalā kulli shay'in qadīr.
