Prophet Ibrahim
The Father of the Prophets · Khalilullah
Ibrahim عليه السلام is one of the greatest human beings to have ever walked the earth — the father of the Prophets, the builder of the Kaaba, and the man whom Allah chose as His Khalil: His intimate, beloved friend. No title given to any Prophet carries the weight of this one.
He was born into a family and a society of idol worship, yet from his earliest years, his heart refused to accept falsehood. Through pure reasoning and an unshakeable longing for the truth, he arrived at the oneness of Allah before any Prophet had been sent to guide him — and then he stood before his entire people, smashed their idols, and declared his Lord openly. He was thrown into a raging fire, yet Allah commanded the fire to be cool and peaceful for him, and it obeyed.
His trials did not end there. He was commanded to leave his wife Hajar and his infant son Ismail alone in the barren valley of Makkah. He obeyed. Then came the ultimate test — the command in a dream to sacrifice his own son. Again, he obeyed. At the moment the knife was raised, Allah called out that the test was complete, and Ibrahim عليه السلام had passed every trial with perfect submission. It is this total surrender that earned him the name Khalilullah — and that made his descendants the bearers of prophethood until the final messenger Muhammad ﷺ.
- Raised among idol worshippers — yet found Allah through reason alone
- Debated his people and his father — rejected and cast out
- Thrown into a blazing fire — Allah made it cool and safe
- Left Hajar and baby Ismail in the empty desert of Makkah
- Commanded in a dream to sacrifice his son Ismail
- Built the Kaaba with Ismail — and prayed for the ummah to come
